The six-word story project was really fun! I enjoyed this as our first project of the semester. I liked all the freedom it gave me and I also had fun filming! My six-word story was, "I’d rather be at the beach." I came up with this, along with other beach related ideas, a couple of weeks ago. It was a few days before Spring Break was going to start and getting to go to the beach soon was practically all I could think about. As I was thinking about the beach, a bunch of really cool shot ideas came to mind as well. I decided to take some time in Florida to film a few scenes, along with the two I had previously filmed in class already. My first shot was a high angled wide shot of me doing my work on the computer. I was trying to recreate a sense of how I was acting those few days leading up to Spring break. I made it a high angle shot so it made me look smaller, less important. I wanted it to look less important because I was in St. Louis, and the point of my video was to show that I didn’t want to be there. Then I had a transition fade into my next shot, this one was a canted, low angle, extreme wide shot. Canted angles are meant to disturb the image, which is exactly why I went for one. I feel like the canted helped set more of a divide between the difference going from reality to my dream. My next shot was a medium shot of my friends and I getting smoothies by the beach. It was a perfect opportunity to get some great clips because the water was bright blue that day and the smoothies gave it a cool vibe. The fourth shot I had was an eye level shot of my feet in the sand with waves rolling up. I had gotten the ocean, the palm trees, and I felt I needed the sand to complete the beach feel. After getting those three aspects of the beach. I went with an extreme wide shot of the sunset on the beach. It was a good closing and included the different aspects I wanted to have representing the beach as it closed up my dream. This was my favorite shot of the six because it was a timelapse. I had the idea and went over it with Mr. Goble, who gave me some great tips that were very useful for when I went to film on my own. I had some trouble finding out how to keep the camera still during the sunset, but I made a makeshift tripod that worked surprisingly well! Ending my Six Word Story was a tight shot of my face. I had the bell ringing as I woke up from my daydream. I think one of my first drafts of my storyboard for this had my four beach videos in a different order, but I made a new one and I feel as if it makes so much more sense now. Editing was pretty easy, although when it came to finding audio it was a bit of a challenge. I wish there could have been an easier way to find more free music. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and thought it was a great way to prepare us for more videos to come! This week we have started on our Six-Word Story project. The first step to this wasn't filming or editing though. It was research. My class was required to spend time researching Six-Word Stories and Ernest Hemingway. First I looked for some stories to inspire me. My favorite on was: "Painfully, he changed 'is' to 'was'." It sounded like a quote from one of my favorite movies and I really liked it. After searching through story examples, I started looking for Ernest Hemingway. Ernest Hemingway wrote a really famous one. It sparked a lot of controversy on the origins of the piece. Some people said he wrote it in one place for a bet, some people say he wrote it in a different place on a napkin, and others say he hadn't even written it at all. "For sale, baby shoes, never worn." Let me know what you guys think this means to you! If you want to learn more about this particular Six-Word Story, go visit this site I used. It was really great and gave me all the information! |
